The model is built using a 3D file which we section into layers using a specialised program. We generate the supports needed in areas where the model has to be attached to the construction platform.
The system works using the same principle as a hot glue gun, with nozzles that melt, extrude and deposit the thermoplastic. It uses thumbwheels with plastic filament, which is melted and deposited onto the platform through the nozzles, before instantly hardening. The nozzles move over the platform on axes, drawing the model layer line by line. When the layer is finished, the platform is lowered and the second layer is created, and so on until the model is completed. The supports generated by this technology can be removed manually or, in some cases, they can be dissolved in a specific liquid for easy removal.

FDM technology gives you freedom of design, as it lets you create models with complex features, negative moulds and details of inaccessible areas. And all of this is very easy to do when you use FDM-Fortus to create prototypes and production parts.
FDM makes it possible to create production parts easily with no need for dies or moulds. Its main advantage is being able to create limited runs of parts with high-performance materials. It produces rugged and durable parts, highly resistant to both heat and chemicals. All of these characteristics are perfect for a wide range of functional applications.
You can do away with having to keep parts in stock, because with the 3D files you can manufacture all the parts you need. You’ll only have to manufacture the parts you require, and you can also improve your designs without being tied down to the limited possibilities of manufacturing tools. Say goodbye to high costs and lengthy processes when you use FDM-Fortus for your projects.
